Performance Poetry is a contemporary, live, cross-disciplinary genre of poetry with deep roots and an open temporal horizon. It was only at the beginning of the 21^st century that it was acknowledged and classified among the literary genres by the National Endowment for the Arts in America, and has since managed to capture the enthusiastic interest of audiences worldwide.

A performance poetry work is designed and performed by the poet themselves, using words and body, inviting their audience to “receive” the poetic language with all their senses. The poetic speech unfolds and is re-signified as both action and spectacle, simultaneously, through its organic coupling with various expressive codes, different forms of art (video art, photography, musical landscapes and soundscapes, installations, visual actions, light painting, body painting, voice, body, etc.) and digital technology.

The poet utilizes their entire skill set and has the opportunity to collaborate and co-create with other artists (musicians, visual artists, dancers, video artists, etc.), within a live, interactive process that culminates in a dynamic, participatory, multi-layered, and multi-sensory poetic experience; an Intermedia, three-dimensional poetic event.
